X-Men Episodes 5-6 (DVD) Review
The classic 1990s animated series comes to DVD in bite sized releases. We review the second solo disc release of X-Men in the Treat Size Introduces collection from Walk.
This release comprises of two episodes ‘Captive Hearts’ and ‘Cold Vengeance’. In Captive Hearts Cyclops and Jean Grey are taking a nice off to go see a movie. After they see a small mutant fleeing from a mob they follow it to a subway station and a standoff between a group of humans and another waiting group of mutants called the Morlocks. Mutants that cannot pretend to be human and are forced to live underground. Their leader has taken an interest in Cyclops and wants him to lead their people by her side.
Cold Vengeance is Wolverine wandering way up north in the frozen landscape looking for some time to himself away from Jean and Cyclops. Shortly ambushed by Sabretooth and left for dead he is rescued by some local fishermen. He lives for a bit in their village becoming popular with all but one man who joins forces with Sabretooth to setup Wolverine for another confrontation. At the same time a trio of our X-Men have gone to a placed called Genosha which is supposed to be welcome to mutants…but not all is as it seems.
While the first story works as a throw-away single entry the second episode with the usual grudge match between Wolverine and Sabretooth is fun for any franchise fan. Easily recommended. There are no extras included on this release and the episodes run on an auto play all with no menus for the 45 or so minute total running time.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Wolverine against Sabretooth again and we’re not getting bored of seeing it. In the remove wilderness these two cold warriors fight in the snow and we’re all the better for it.
